Within preparations for extension of Terminal B at Sarajevo International Airport, works on demolition of the old Terminal A building were finished before the end of the existing year, as announced previously. In accordance with best practice in business world, the Contractor selected all the debris, thus enabling us to sell over 50 tons of metal waste, mostly iron and alumina.
Also, all the equipment from the restaurant and its kitchen were moved from the old Terminal to provisional prefabricated facilities that started to be used as a restaurant just a few days ago. This prefabricated building is located on a part of the parking area for employees but the restaurant is open not only for the employees of the Airport but also for those of the Customs, Border Police and other Airport tenants, passengers and visitors.
To remind you, the old Terminal A was open on June 2, 1969. It has been a long time the old Terminal, placed next to renovated Terminal B stopped being used as terminal building. For that reason it has now been demolished to leave space foe extension of Terminal B.
The old Terminal A was used for commercial air traffic from 1969 till the beginning of the war in 1992. After reconstruction of Terminal B, the old one served as office space for Airport employees, with a restaurant open for visitors, too.
Preparation works preceded the demolition. They took several months and included assembly and furnishing of two prefabricated buildings with all supporting infrastructure to meet needs of employees and the mentioned restaurant. Within these works some 120 employees form the Air traffic operations centre, Catering and other services were moved to several locations.
